Today is cloudy and chilly.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a small flock of sparrows.  I heard a cardinal singing but didn't see it.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 2/14/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

I put out more birdseed and a fresh cake of peanut suet.

EDIT 2/14/26 -- I spread a bucket of mulch around the apricot tree.

EDIT 2/14/26 -- It's been drizzling here, just enough to wet things, not enough to leave puddles anywhere I've seen.

EDIT 2/14/26 -- I did more work around the patio.

It is now raining enough to leave a few tiny puddles on the patio.

I am done for the night.

I came across a reference that [personal profile] spikedluv has passed away.  There are comments under the last post to this effect.

Low-Earth orbit is just 2.8 days from disaster

Low-Earth orbit is more crowded—and fragile—than it looks. Satellites constantly weave past each other, burning fuel and making dozens of evasive maneuvers every year just to stay safe. A major solar storm could disable navigation and communications, turning that careful dance into chaos. According to new calculations, it may take just days—not decades—for a catastrophic chain reaction to begin, potentially choking off humanity’s access to space for generations.

Solar storms can have various effects and follow an 11-year cycle. We are currently around the maximum, hence the aurora displays over the last year or two.

People have expressed interest in deep topics, so this list focuses on philosophical questions.

Why have many societies begun to place such a high value on emotions and being emotional?

Everyone has feelings. Feelings can be intense. That makes it a good way to distract people from actions.

I found a video I liked much better for 'Frankenstein' leads Best Horror Film at the Saturn Awards for Friday the 13th.

My sleep score last night was 83/100, and I set my sleep time for nine hours, with interruptions being my worst part, and I peed once. I hope that the sleep appointment I'm having in April reveals something.

I got two invites for more voicework shit on Upwork, but one used an app I had already used so they nixed that, and the other had a new one so I recorded 200 clips, and got mildly frustrated since the app said I was speaking too loud frequently.

I had a walk after breakfast as usual and walked up the hill to around where my parents live, and I do new routes frequently.

The Fairview soup kitchen took a long time to open after its usual time of 11am, and they had chicken fried steak and rice that was okay. They were serving other gross shit with it that I refused since I don't like it interfering with the other food.

I read the town newspaper at the library afterwards, and primary early voting begins on the 17th, and I'm still voting for health freedom candidates and local favorites among my town's TACOS (Transparency Accountability Citizens Oversight Solutions) group, which was formed after my town's last bond election in November given suspicious shit in a bond measure that was passed where people were forbidden from posting on social media sites about it.

Then I shopped for stuff at Walmart afterwards.

I did get some of my Crisis Core Reunion review done, and had an old review of the PlayStation Portable version on my old review wiki that I'm going from and retooling.

Oh, look, it's Barack Obama needing to present a photo ID to vote back in 2012, and now he's whining about it.

And these are the same people who wanted us to show vaccination papers during the COVID pandemic as well.

No voters get "suppressed" other than criminals trying to rig elections, and to me screaming disenfranchisement is like children being denied smoking and drinking or access to nightclubs.

And Trump won all the states that require photo ID, all the states that voted for Kamala don't require it. Figures.

Also, get rid of voting machines, again. They need to start making some arrests for voter fraud as well.

Apparently, after I stopped watching 'Primeval' because they'd killed off or lost all the original players, they brought it back for two more seasons, in the process finding two characters lost in the Cretacious Era. So now I'm watching entirely new-to-me episodes, and thinking how much more AU my AU series of stories is now with all this additional context.

Climate change in the US impacts each state differently

Their point is that climate change doesn’t just “shift” temperatures upward evenly. Sometimes the hottest days are getting hotter while the cold end barely moves.

In other places, winters are warming quickly, while summer extremes change less. And if you only watch the average, you can miss those differences.

Today is partly sunny and chilly.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a few sparrows.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 2/13/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

I refilled the hopper feeder.

EDIT 2/13/26 -- I spread a bucket of mulch where the contorta willow tree used to grow.

EDIT 2/13/26 -- I did more work around the patio.

I've seen a flock of sparrows, a mourning dove, and a male cardinal.

I am done for the night.

Sweetie is home from the vet, with medicine to rub on her ear (for absorption) and pills (good luck to us on that) and a shot from the vet to help things move through her better. They took blood tests also but we'll find out about them Monday.

She is sniffing at food, and walking around outside of her hiding place, so I think she's feeling a little better. Steve said she purred for them, which is very good.
